Agentic Runtimes

To enable them on your workspace, you'll need to reach out and book a call with us beforehand so we can walk through your use case and get you provisioned. While they're fully functional, expect regular updates as new capabilities roll out, and we recommend testing through a deployment (direct link, embed, portal, etc.) rather than the builder for the most accurate experience.

What are Agentic Runtimes?

Agentic Runtimes are Pickaxe's next-generation AI engine that replaces the standard backend infrastructure powering your workspace. When enabled, every agent in your workspace runs as an independent agentic runtime — giving each user their own isolated, fully-featured AI agent operating on its own computer.

Think of it as upgrading from a shared environment to dedicated, sandboxed agents with significantly more capabilities out of the box.

How it works

When you enable Agentic Runtimes at the workspace level, every agent switches from the default Pickaxe backend to agentic runtime routing. Each end user who interacts with one of your agents gets a unique agentic runtime running independently. This means:

• Isolated execution — every user session operates in its own sandboxed environment
• Multi-model functionality — agentic runtimes can leverage multiple models within a single interaction
• Advanced actions — agents have access to a broader set of built-in capabilities beyond standard agent actions
• Deeper memory — improved context retention across conversations

Key features

Built-in capabilities

Agentic runtimes come with significantly more functionality enabled by default compared to standard agents:

• Web browsing — agents can search and browse the web in real time
• PDF creation — generate documents on the fly during a conversation
• Code execution — run code directly from the agent's sandboxed computer
• Scheduled & recurring tasks (cron jobs) — agents can run on a schedule, kicking off tasks automatically at set intervals (hourly, daily, weekly, or any cron expression) without anyone needing to start the conversation
• Computer access — request a link to view and control the agent's computer, allowing you or your users to authenticate accounts, verify actions, or interact with the environment directly

Rewritable agent logic

With Agentic Runtimes, users have the ability to rewrite the brains of the agent. Pickaxe adds additional safeguards and guardrails on top to help prevent users from accessing or modifying things they shouldn't. This gives you flexibility to deeply customize agent behavior while maintaining security boundaries.

Enabling Agentic Runtimes

To enable Agentic Runtimes for your workspace:

1. Navigate to your Workspace Settings
2. Find the Agentic Runtimes toggle
3. Turn it on — all agents in the workspace will now run on agentic runtime infrastructure

The switch applies workspace-wide, so every agent under that workspace will use agentic runtime routing once enabled.

Configuration

You have full control over your agentic runtime setup:

• Upload a configuration — bring your own agentic runtime configuration file and apply it to your workspace
• Download configurations — export the configuration from any of your agents to reuse, share, or modify externally

This makes it easy to version, replicate, or migrate your agent setups across workspaces.

Monetize your agentic runtime bot

Once your agentic runtime-powered agent is up and running, you can start charging users for access. Pickaxe has built-in monetization tools that work seamlessly with agentic runtime bots — subscriptions, pay-per-usage, one-time payments, or external payment links.

Setting up monetization

1. Go to the Access section of your agent and enable access control
2. Create a member access group
3. Open the Monetization and Upgrade tab inside that group
4. Toggle on "Charge for upgrade to this Access Group"
5. Choose your pricing model — subscription (daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly) or one-time payment — and set your price
6. Connect your Stripe account via the Settings page to start receiving payments

Tips for monetizing agentic runtime bots

• Leverage advanced capabilities — an agentic runtime's built-in web browsing, PDF creation, and code execution make your bots more valuable and easier to justify charging for
• Tier your access — create multiple access groups with different usage limits so users can upgrade as they need more
• Combine pricing models — pair a one-time payment with pay-per-usage to cover ongoing AI costs while keeping the entry price attractive
