Trial periods for access groups
Choose the workspace you want to configure, then follow the steps below.

What it does
Public and member access groups can be given a time-limited trial from the Setup tab.
Before this
An expansion. A group could be free, or it could be paid. It could not be free for a set number of days and then paid.
Why it matters
An expiring trial creates a deadline. People who'd happily sit on a free tier forever tend to decide once there's a date attached.
How it works
Configured in an access group's Setup tab, under Usage Limit: a Free Trial Period of a set number of days, with either a limited allowance or an unlimited one, before the paid plan takes over.
It applies to public and member groups. Invite-only groups do not have it, deliberately — trials exist to convert strangers, and an invite-only group has none.
The mechanism worth understanding is the deadline rather than the free usage. A free tier is a place people settle; a trial is a date, and a date forces the decision you actually want them to make.
