Some people are annoyingly good at more than one thing. Artsiom Maisiuk is one of those people, and we are very happy he chose to spend some of that talent building Pickaxe.
From Tbilisi, Georgia, Artsiom is one of our main engineers. He is also a climber, a motorcycle enthusiast, and a surfer. At 6'6", he has the unfair advantage of being able to reach both the next climbing hold and whatever everyone else left on the top shelf.
There is not much in our codebase that Artsiom has not had a direct role in shaping. One of his biggest claims to fame is our entire billing system, which he has played a massive part in building. It is a huge contribution to Pickaxe, and one that deserves a lot of credit.
He has worked across the builder, backend, embeds, onboarding, and Studio. His updates range from Telegram and Discord integrations to the small, stubborn fixes that make a product feel better every time you use it.
He is in charge of our embeds and billing infrastructure, two huge parts of what makes Pickaxe work. When someone puts a Pickaxe on their own website or builds a business around it, they are using systems Artsiom has played a massive role in shaping.
That is a pretty good highlight reel already. But some of the work we appreciate most is less obvious: an integration connection refreshing properly, an onboarding step becoming smoother, a deployment rendering when it should, a sign-in problem getting untangled.
Those things matter to the person on the other side of the screen. Artsiom has contributed to all of them, and to plenty of the details around them, from stop buttons and drag and drop to embed upgrades and single sign-on.
Then there is the Artsiom who closes the laptop. Climbing is a big part of his life, and his idea of getting some fresh air includes making his way up Half Dome. The rest of us would still like a staircase.
He has also climbed Everest. Most people come back from a holiday with a few restaurant recommendations. Artsiom comes back from the highest point on Earth. We assume the summit had terrible Wi-Fi, but we would still check the commit history before ruling out a billing fix at 29,000 feet.
When he is back at a more reasonable altitude, there are the motorcycles. Artsiom has ridden across Mongolia, trading his desk in Tbilisi for open grasslands, mountain valleys, and a very different kind of daily commute. It is an extremely cool way to see the world, especially for someone whose other vehicle is our entire billing infrastructure.
He is also big into surfing, and has surfed 25-foot waves off Portugal. That is roughly four Artsioms stacked on top of one another, which is not a unit of measurement we expected to need. Apparently, climbing the tallest mountain on Earth did not quite satisfy his interest in things much larger than himself.
He is just as enthusiastic about a good meal. Spicy Georgian food and Nepalese food are particular favorites, which gives us a much more achievable way to keep up with him. We might pass on the 25-foot waves, but we can absolutely show up for dinner.
Behind every feature people use at Pickaxe are people doing the work, following up, and caring about the parts that still need attention. Artsiom is a big part of that.
So this is a thank-you for the integrations, the fixes, the range of problems he takes on, and everything he brings to the team beyond his job description. An excellent engineer and a very cool human. We are lucky to have him.
