Pickaxe Studio is a simple way to host and sell your AI tools. We’ve seen thousands of AI entrepreneurs create tools with Pickaxe and deploy them across the web to start businesses. While Pickaxe is an easy way embed AI into your website, there are some important limitations to embedding Pickaxe into your website. You can’t see who uses your tool, you can’t monetize tools directly, and importantly, you need to already have a website or app!
A Studio is an elegant, configurable container for all your tools. It’s no-code and easy to launch in only a few minutes. Creators are launching stores and monetizing their AI tools.
With Studio you can...
- Bundle tools
- Customize a webpage
- Add walkthrough videos to your pickaxes
- Set prices & sell your Pickaxes
- Set usage limits
- Create tiers with associated limits, prices, and access
- Create accounts
- White-label everything
- Create custom logins
- Monitor activity
- Organize tools in folders
- Host it at a custom domain
- & much, much more.
In this blog post I’ll cover the basic functionality of the Studio and how to do use it. Here is a detailed walkthrough video of Pickaxe Studio as well, if you prefer to watch a video.
What is a Pickaxe Studio?
A Studio is a simple website where you can put tools and share with other people. In addition to that, this simple website lets you put tools behinds paywalls, limit users, manage accounts, and more. In other words, it lets you wrap one or multiple tools into a functional and monetizable app.
If you want to share your pickaxes with other people, charge money, and run a business-- Studio is the best way to do it!
Here are a few examples of Pickaxe studios:
- Shakespeare Helper (tools for english literature students)
- CopyCoached (AI copywriting tools)
- What The Verse (AI Bible Study tools)
- Hinge Helper (AI tools for texting on dating apps)
Bundle Tools
A Studio is a convenient way to bundle a group of related tools. For example, one Pickaxe user bundled together 5 marketing tools related to writing and promoting LinkedIn posts. Another user made a 7-step workflow for creating engaging webinars with a specialized tool for each step. One Fortune 500 bundled together a collection of tools for creating and filling out HR paperwork. A college application consultant bundled together tools for writing college applications-- two for free and two behind a paywall.
Studio lets you add multiple tools, re-sort them, put them into folders, and more!

Set tiers
Inside Studio, you can control how people use your tools, how often, and at what price.
Out of the box, we offer three tiers. But you can add more. "Guests" are users who have not signed up or paid. You can give them 5 uses to try it before signing it up. Or zero uses if you want them to see the pickaxes but not be able to try them. "Members" are users who have signed up with an email to your Studio. Similarly, you can give them any amount of uses. "Premium" are users who pay for your Studio. You can set the price and the associated uses. You can always add more tiers later. And you can rename these tiers as well.
Payments are all handled securely through Stripe. Setting it up is easy and can be done in a few minutes. Here’s a simple step-by-step walkthrough on setting up monetization for your Studio.

Pickaxe supports lots of customization of tiers. You can even change the currency of your Studio tiers (as long as no one has bought it yet).
Customize appearance
Studio is your personal storefront for AI tools. You can customize it to look and feel like your brand. Inside the "Design" tab, almost every part of the Studio is configurable and customizable. Let's briefly go over the core elements.
Color, font, & images
Inside Studio you can configure almost every aspect of your Studio to make it feel like a custom website or web app. Change the look of your Pickaxes down to line widths. Change the fonts across the tools to match your preferences. Make it your own!

Hosting it at a custom domain
By default all Studios are hosted through a pickaxe domain. This makes it easy to launch immediately. If you already have your own domain, you can move your Studio over to it.
If you want your Studio to be occupy a whole domain (like aiconsulting.com), you'll want to add an A Record.
If you want your Studio to be a sub-domain of an existing domain (like studio.aiconsulting.com) you'll want to add a CName.
This may sound complicated, but it's actually no harder than copy & pasting stuff around websites. Here's a simple walkthrough of how to host your studio at a custom domain.
Pop-ups & CTA text
We also let you customize every pop-up to users. These pop-ups include the message a Studio end-user gets when they're prompted to sign up, to log-in, even the message they get to upgrade when they run out of uses. It’s all easy to configure and customize within Studio. Customizing text copy across Studio is easy!

Manage users
Under the Monitor tab, you can see all the activity in your Studio in a simple dashboard. Here you can see your stats, your users, their activity, and more.
